Of Vampires and Werewolves and well y'know SexI'm sure many of you have more than a little interest in the series by Stephenie Meyers.
Well, I looked through most of the storyline of the 4 books. It's quite entertaining, I agree. It's my personal view that all this interest in the book and movie is quite alright, but I do want to gently bring to mind a few things for you to remember.
1) I know the vampires and werewolves in the book are nothing like the Count Dracula type. I.e. clearly demonic, anti-Christian, afraid of crosses... etc.
However, bear in mind that the root idea of vampires are demonic/evil beings. So just be cautious on this point ok? Just because vampires are romanticized in this series of novels doesn't mean we should accept everything about them.
2) Werewolves (Lycanthropes) are likewise, in European mythology closely linked with magical arts/ superstition... etc. While I personally feel these subjects are alright as pure entertainment, be careful not to internalize too much of this stuff.
3) Be aware that the author is a Mormon. That's not a Christian like us. It's a cult. She's prob from this cult called the Church of Latter Day Saints. Their doctrine is quite different from us. While that might not mean much, just know that her influences might not be very biblical at all.
Don't be confused and think that a Christian wrote the book. She's from a cult.4) What I'm most concerned about is the very adult themes of this series. There are talks about sex and Bella wanting Edward to have make love to her... etc. I understand Edward is portrayed as a very proper, gentlemanly boyfriend in the series, who refuses those advances as he doesn't want to hurt Bella.
In spite of all this, take everything with a cautious mind. Always go back to scripture.
Understand that sex out of marriage is wrong. It is severely out of God's plans for us. Many youth these days are sexually active out of marriage. And probably most of you talk about such things already. So guard yourselves. Know who you are in Christ. You are loved children. You must live to be holy, just as your God is holy.
Guys and gals. If you ever get attached in future, remember a few things.
Guys- honour your girlfriend. Guard her in a godly manner. Do not succumb to peer pressure and become sexually immoral.
Gals- Do not succumb to pressure when you see other people doing such things. Guard your own purity. If your boyfriend is Christian and loves you, he would not even suggest such a thing.
